Awareness of workplace stress-reduction interventions positively impacts employee job satisfaction and commitment. However, psychological strain was not affected, with workload and staffing pressures remaining key stressor.
Area of Science:
- Occupational Health Psychology
- Organizational Behavior
Background:
- Employee well-being and work attitudes are critical for organizational success.
- Stress-reduction interventions are implemented to mitigate workplace stressors.
- Awareness of these interventions may influence their perceived effectiveness and impact.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the effect of awareness of stress-reduction interventions on employee well-being and work attitudes.
- To identify specific employee perceptions regarding causes of stress.
- To inform future development of stress management strategies.
Main Methods:
- Mixed methods design utilizing cross-sectional questionnaire data from 247 university employees.
- Quantitative analysis of well-being and work attitude variables.
- Thematic analysis of qualitative data on perceived stressor causes.
Main Results:
- Employees aware of interventions reported higher job satisfaction, affective organizational commitment, procedural justice, and trust in management.
- No significant difference in psychological strain was found between aware and unaware groups.
- Workload and staffing pressures were primary sources of increased stress; new management was a source of decreased stress.
Conclusions:
- Awareness of stress-reduction interventions is linked to improved work attitudes, but not necessarily reduced psychological strain.
- Organizational factors like workload and staffing significantly contribute to employee stress.
- Management and supervisory changes can positively influence employee stress levels.
