Summary

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the feasibility and safety of LESS urologic surgery using conventional laparoscopic instruments.
  • To present initial clinical experience with this technique.

Main Methods:

  • LESS urologic surgery was performed on 20 patients using a single periumbilical incision and standard laparoscopic instruments.
  • Procedures included nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, cyst marsupialization, ureterolithotomy, varicocelectomy, pyeloplasty, vesicovaginal fistula repair, and orchiopexy.
  • Data on feasibility, complications, pain, analgesic use, and recovery were prospectively collected.

Main Results:

  • All 20 cases were successfully completed without conversion to open or standard laparoscopic surgery.
  • Mean operative times varied by procedure, with no intraoperative complications reported.
  • Patients experienced decreasing pain scores and analgesic requirements postoperatively, with a mean hospital stay of 2.9 days.

Conclusions:

  • LESS urologic surgery with conventional instruments is a safe and feasible option for selected patients.
  • This approach demonstrated successful outcomes without additional cost.
  • Further investigation and experience are recommended.
