Background:

Nursing is a complex social practice influenced by various guiding values.
Understanding these values is crucial for effective healthcare delivery and nursing practice.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify the fundamental values that structure and guide nursing as a social practice.
To synthesize key concepts influencing nursing practice.

Main Methods:

Qualitative meta-synthesis approach was employed.
Analysis focused on identifying recurring themes and concepts within nursing literature.

Main Results:

Three core concepts emerged: the interplay of technique, organization, and ethics; historical influences on nursing values; and the focus on ethics, health system reform, and care humanization.
These concepts synthesized into two principal variables: 'planning' (technical-operative values) and 'care' (ethical-moral values).

Conclusions:

Nursing values are articulated through a framework of 'ordering' to ensure quality care.
Recognizing these values deepens the understanding of healthcare and nursing processes.
The findings support the integration of ethical considerations into technical aspects of nursing practice.
