Pre-existing mutations in the hepatitis B virus (HBV) reverse transcriptase (RT) region were found in nearly half of treatment-naïve patients. These HBV RT mutations may reduce susceptibility to antiviral drugs, necessitating genotypic testing before therapy initiation.
