Electronic medical record (EMR) systems are crucial for healthcare delivery.
Mobile technology offers potential to enhance healthcare access and data management in resource-limited settings.
Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) play a vital role in primary healthcare, particularly in maternal and child health services.

Purpose of the Study:

To introduce AccessMRS, an open-source Android application designed for interfacing with the OpenMRS EMR system.
To detail the development of AccessMRS, focusing on its role in supporting CHVs and improving community-based health services.
To present AccessMRS within the context of a suite of related mHealth applications.

Main Methods:

Development of an open-source Android application (AccessMRS) for mobile EMR access.
Integration of 'Smart Forms' for electronic data collection on mobile devices.
Design considerations based on the workflows of Kenyan Ministry of Health CHVs within the AMPATH Primary Health Care Program.
