To introduce and evaluate the initial clinical experience with the Essen biopsy forceps.
To assess the utility of this novel method for uveal melanoma diagnosis.

Two patients with suspected uveal melanoma underwent biopsy.
The Essen biopsy forceps were used with a sutureless 23-gauge three-port vitrectomy system.
