Background:

The Health Council of the Netherlands issued guidelines on vitamin D supplementation for the elderly in 2008.
Concerns persist regarding inadequate vitamin D supplementation among the elderly population.
This study investigates adherence to national guidelines by healthcare providers.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the extent to which general practitioners and elderly care physicians follow the Health Council's vitamin D supplementation advice for the elderly.
To identify gaps in the implementation of established nutritional guidelines.

Main Methods:

A questionnaire-based study was conducted.
Surveys were distributed to elderly care physicians nationwide.
General practitioners were surveyed at a network meeting.

Over two-thirds of surveyed physicians are aware of the vitamin D guidelines.
