Area of Science:

  • Dermatopathology
  • Histology

Background:

  • Accessory tragi are congenital skin appendages.
  • Understanding their histological characteristics is crucial for accurate diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the histological features of accessory tragi.
  • To identify key diagnostic criteria for accessory tragi.

Main Methods:

  • Histological examination of accessory tragi from 13 patients.
  • Analysis of tissue morphology and composition.

Main Results:

  • All analyzed lesions exhibited numerous small, mature hair follicles in various growth phases.
  • The presence of cartilage was found to be non-essential for diagnosis.
  • A prominent connective tissue framework within the subcutaneous fat was consistently observed.

Conclusions:

  • The presence of mature hair follicles is a hallmark of accessory tragi.
  • The prominent connective tissue framework in subcutaneous fat is a significant diagnostic criterion.
  • Histological analysis aids in differentiating accessory tragi from other skin lesions.
