    Summary

    Latent hypermetropia can cause vision problems and headaches, often missed by standard autorefractometry. Cycloplegic eye exams are crucial for accurate prescription and resolving patient symptoms.

    Background:

    • Patients presenting with visual disturbances and headaches may have uncorrected latent hypermetropia.
    • Inadequate correction of ametropia can lead to various, often overlooked, ocular and visual complaints.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To demonstrate the ability to measure minus diopters in latent hypermetropes.
    • To highlight the importance of cycloplegic examinations in specific patient cases.

    Main Methods:

    • Ocular refraction was measured using an autorefractometer before and after cycloplegia induced by tropicamide (UNITROPIC 1%) or cyclopentolate (CYCLOGYL 1%).
    • Visual acuity was assessed with the best corrective lenses, both with and without cycloplegia.

    • Cycloplegia revealed significant shifts towards hyperopia in both objective and subjective refraction for most selected patients.
