Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between lifetime psychedelic consumption and current mental health status in the adult US population.
  • To determine if psychedelic use is a risk factor for adverse mental health outcomes.
  • To analyze associations with various mental health indicators, including psychological distress and psychiatric disorders.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized data from the 2001-2004 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (n=130,152).
  • Employed standardized screening measures for past-year mental health, including serious psychological distress (K6), mental health treatment utilization, and symptoms of eight psychiatric disorders.
