Summary

Real-time elastography cannot distinguish between benign and malignant splenic nodules in dogs. This ultrasonographic technique also failed to differentiate normal from diseased splenic tissue, limiting its diagnostic value.

  • Its application in veterinary splenic diagnostics remains unexplored.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of real-time elastography in differentiating splenic lesions in dogs.
  • To compare elastography findings with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in canine splenic tissues.

Main Methods:

  • Real-time elastography was performed on 22 dogs with normal spleens or splenic nodules.
  • The study included 8 normal spleens, 8 benign nodules, and 6 malignant nodules.
  • Results were correlated with contrast-enhanced ultrasound findings.

Main Results:

  • Real-time elastography could not differentiate between benign and malignant splenic nodules.
  • The technique was also unable to distinguish normal splenic tissue from diseased tissue.
  • No significant association was found between elastography and CEUS findings.

Conclusions:

  • Real-time elastography is not a useful tool for differentiating splenic nodules in dogs.
  • Further research is needed to explore alternative diagnostic modalities for canine splenic lesions.
