    Area of Science:

    • Pediatric Surgery
    • Abdominal Surgery
    • Surgical Pathology

    Background:

    • Splenic cysts are rare surgical diseases in the abdominal cavity of children.
    • This study reviews cases from a 20-year period (1968-1988) at a pediatric surgery clinic.

    Observation:

    • Three pediatric patients with splenic cysts were observed and treated.
    • Modern diagnostic tools including echography, CT, scintigraphy, and laparoscopy enabled precise preoperative localization.

    Findings:

    • Partial splenic resection was performed in these cases.
    • The study reports good postoperative results following partial splenectomy for splenic cysts.

    Implications:

    • Organ-preserving surgery is recommended as the preferred method for nonparasitic splenic cysts.
    • This approach was pioneered in Bulgaria for splenic cyst treatment.
