Area of Science:

  • Thoracic surgery
  • Minimally invasive procedures
  • Animal models in research

Background:

  • Evaluating the feasibility of robot-assisted thoracoscopic T2-T5 ramicotomy.
  • Assessing the safety and efficacy of a novel surgical approach.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the feasibility of robot-assisted thoracoscopic T2-T5 ramicotomy.
  • To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of this procedure in a porcine model.

Main Methods:

  • Robot-assisted thoracoscopic T2-T5 ramicotomy performed in 5 pigs.
  • Followed by T2-T5 sympathectomy.
  • Monitoring of procedure times and core/surface temperatures.

Main Results:

  • Successful completion in all animals, with intact sympathetic chain and no major hemorrhage.
