Summary

A rare reddish-purplish ear lesion, potentially Kaposi

Background:

  • A 57-year-old male presented with a recurrent reddish-purplish swelling on the helix of his ear.
  • The patient had no known predisposing factors, including smoking, alcohol use, or a family history of similar lesions or Kaposi's sarcoma.

Observation:

  • The initial lesion, over 1 cm, persisted for 3 months before complete excision and reconstruction.
  • Recurrent lesions appeared on the contralateral auricle in 2011 and a smaller lesion on the left helix in 2012, both surgically removed.

Findings:

  • The case describes a unique presentation of a recurring, localized, reddish-purplish auricular lesion in an immunocompetent patient.
