Insights
Supraventricular tachycardia in Omani children is common. While adenosine aids acute treatment, long-term management strategies for this pediatric arrhythmia require further discussion.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric Cardiology
- Electrophysiology
Background:
- Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a prevalent arrhythmia in children.
- Accurate diagnosis and effective management are crucial for pediatric patients.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present cases of SVT in Omani children.
- To discuss diagnostic and management approaches for pediatric SVT.
Main Methods:
- Clinical case presentation of three Omani children with SVT.
- Review of diagnostic tools including electrocardiography (ECG).
- Discussion of acute and long-term management strategies.
Main Results:
- ECG is a key diagnostic tool for pediatric SVT.
- Adenosine has proven effective for acute SVT management in children.
- Long-term management of pediatric SVT remains an area for debate.
Conclusions:
- SVT is a significant pediatric arrhythmia in Oman.
- Adenosine is a valuable agent for acute SVT intervention.
- Further research is needed to establish optimal long-term SVT management protocols in children.
Abstract:
The article presents three Omani children with supraventricular tachycardia and discusses the diagnosis and management. Clinical features along with ECG help diagnosis of this common paediatric arrhythmia. Acute management has been facilitated with the introduction of adenosine. However, longterm management continues to be a topic for debate.
