Background:

The posterior edentulous maxilla presents challenges for dental implants due to bone resorption and sinus pneumatization.
Maxillary sinus augmentation is a common procedure to address bone volume deficits for oral rehabilitation.
Potential complications include sinusitis, graft failure, and implant displacement.

Observation:

This study reports an extremely rare complication following maxillary sinus augmentation.
A maxillary cyst was observed 10 years post-treatment in a patient who underwent the procedure.

Findings:

A delayed-onset maxillary cyst is a potential, albeit rare, long-term complication of maxillary sinus augmentation.
This finding underscores the importance of long-term patient monitoring after sinus graft procedures.

Implications:

Awareness of delayed complications like maxillary cysts is crucial for clinicians performing sinus augmentations.
Further research into the etiology and management of such late-occurring complications is warranted.
This case highlights the need for vigilant follow-up in dental implant therapy involving sinus augmentation.
