Background:

Systemic consultation offers a reflective space for clinicians managing complex cases and behaviors of concern.

To explore the experiences of clinicians participating in systemic consultation.
To understand the perceived benefits and challenges of this approach in behavior support.
To identify factors influencing the effectiveness of systemic consultation for clinicians.

The study employed thematic analysis to examine qualitative data from eleven clinicians.
Participants had expertise in behavior support but no prior family therapy experience.
Clinicians presented complex, "stuck" cases requiring innovative support strategies.

Clinicians reported increased awareness of client and carer interpersonal needs.
Development of a more facilitative stance and practical skills for case management was noted.
Less experienced clinicians found the relational focus overwhelming, suggesting a need for tailored support.

It equips clinicians with tools to navigate challenging behavioral difficulties more effectively.
