Integrated Healthcare System01:20

Integrated Healthcare System

An integrated healthcare system (IHS) is a set of organizations that provides for or arranges to provide coordinated and continuous service to a defined population. The IHS takes responsibility for that particular population's health status and outcome, both clinically and fiscally. An integrated healthcare system is a well-organized, well-coordinated, and collaborative network. The integrated delivery system is a network that connects different healthcare providers to deliver organized,...

Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System

At the different levels of the healthcare system, we see varying methods of healthcare used. These methods include managed care systems, case management, and primary healthcare.
Managed Care System:
The managed care system is designed to control the cost while maintaining the quality of care. The patient's care from admission to discharge is planned by the primary care provider or the case manager, also known as the gatekeeper. In a managed care system, the number of care providers is limited...

Sustainable Development

As the human population continues to grow and use resources, we must be mindful of our planet’s natural limits. Sustainable development provides a pathway to maintain and improve human life now while also ensuring that future generations will have the resources that they need. The long-term success of sustainability efforts rests on understanding the interplay between human actions and ecological systems.

International Nursing Organizations I

International Nursing Organization (ICN) is a global union of national nurses' organizations. Individual nurses can be a part of ICN through member organizations. Each member organization strives to ensure quality nursing care, sound health policies, the advancement of nursing knowledge, respect for the profession, and a satisfied and competent nursing workforce.
ICN member organizations work to advance the field of nursing and healthcare via policies, partnerships, lobbying, professional...

Global Regulatory Systems

Global regulatory systems in bacteria enable rapid and coordinated responses to environmental changes by integrating sensory inputs with gene expression, ensuring efficient adaptation to fluctuating conditions. Key global regulatory mechanisms include regulons, two-component systems, sigma factors, and secondary messengers.Regulons and Global RegulatorsA regulon is a collection of genes and operons controlled by a common global regulator. These regulators enable bacteria to prioritize resource...

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations based in Geneva. The WHO has many initiatives that center around health. Primarily, they lead global efforts to expand universal health coverage using science-based policies and programs. They are also responsible for shaping health research agendas and developing norms and standards.
The WHO provides expert team support, including funding, vaccines, testing, and treatment tools at the country level to fight...

    Area of Science:

    • Public Health
    • Epidemiology
    • International Health Regulations

    Background:

    • The World Health Organization (WHO) African region (AFRO) comprises 46 countries, with 43 actively implementing Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) guidelines.
    • IDSR is crucial for enhancing the detection, confirmation, and response capabilities for high-priority communicable and noncommunicable diseases.
    • The IDSR framework aligns with and strengthens the surveillance, response, and laboratory core capacities mandated by the International Health Regulations (IHR) of 2005.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To examine the role of Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) in strengthening national capacities within the WHO African region.
    • To highlight how adherence to International Health Regulations (IHR) can drive sustained national commitment to IDSR strategies.
    • To illustrate the growing ability of African countries to detect, assess, and report public health threats through IDSR.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of the implementation status of IDSR guidelines across 46 countries in the WHO African region.
    • Assessment of the alignment between IDSR frameworks and the core capacities required by the International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005.
    • Review of public health events reported through IDSR to the WHO Emergency Management System in Africa.

    Main Results:

    • 43 out of 46 countries in AFRO are implementing IDSR guidelines.
    • IDSR implementation is enhancing national capacities for early warning systems and the reporting of public health events.
    • Reported events demonstrate improved detection, assessment, and reporting of both infectious and noninfectious threats.

    Conclusions:

    • Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) is vital for strengthening public health surveillance and response in the African region.
    • International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005 provide a framework and incentive for sustaining and enhancing national IDSR systems.
    • Continued strengthening of IDSR systems is essential for characterizing outbreaks and effectively responding to public health events in Africa.
