Abstract:
Patient satisfaction surveys are conducted to evaluate and improve the quality of health care services. A patient satisfaction survey was conducted in the Department of Ophthalmology, Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital. The objective of the study was to assess patients' satisfaction with respect to services received from the hospital: ease with which patients accessed care, perception of waiting time, patient- service provider relationship, payment and hospital facilities/environment. Slightly more than three quarters of the participants expressed overall satisfaction. Satisfaction with access to health facility was75.5%, patient doctor relationship was 87.9%, affordability was 76.8% and waiting time was 62.0% respectively. Patient satisfaction surveys should be carried out periodically not only to determine the level of patient satisfaction about the various services of the hospital but also to get the patients' feedback which could be incorporated into the hospital service improvement plans.
