    Summary

    Incontinentia pigmenti skin lesions can persist or recur beyond infancy. Neonatal seizures in these patients indicate a poor developmental prognosis.

    Background:

    • Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is a rare genetic disorder.
    • Previous literature suggests IP skin lesions resolve early in life.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To longitudinally observe the clinical course of skin lesions in IP patients.
    • To assess the developmental outcomes of children with IP.

    Main Methods:

    • Longitudinal follow-up of 15 patients with incontinentia pigmenti.
    • Observation of skin lesion progression and developmental milestones.

    Main Results:

    • Bullous and verrucous lesions in IP may not resolve within the first two years and can recur.
    • Most IP patients have normal intelligence, but those with neonatal seizures show poor developmental prognosis.

    Conclusions:

    • The natural history of IP skin lesions is more variable than previously reported.
    • Early identification of neonatal seizures is crucial for predicting developmental outcomes in IP.
