    • To investigate and map retinofugal projections to the human hypothalamus.
    • To identify potential anatomical substrates for circadian rhythm regulation.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized a new PPD (() staining technique for degenerated fibers.
    • Applied the PPD method to human autopsy brain tissue with optic nerve damage.

    Main Results:

    • Successfully traced degenerated fibers from the optic nerve through the chiasm and tract.
    • Identified a novel optic fascicle projecting to the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus.
