Context:

Healthcare organizations face challenges in integrating newly graduated nurses into ward roles.
Nursing education is undergoing significant changes, prompting discussions on curriculum effectiveness.
There is a need to evaluate the preparedness of new nurses for immediate clinical responsibilities.

Purpose:

To assess the competency levels of new-graduate nurses from the Reggio Emilia Nursing Degree Course.
To determine if these nurses possess adequate skills to meet the demands of healthcare organizations.
To identify specific areas of strength and potential development for newly qualified nurses.

Summary:

Nursing managers interviewed 50 ward managers to evaluate 34 competencies in six skill areas.
New-graduate nurses were rated highly in identifying patient care problems (4.1/5), performing techniques (4.4/5), and meeting deadlines (4.2/5).
Managers unanimously agreed that new nurses have the necessary skills and knowledge for their units.

Impact:

New-graduate nurses demonstrate adequate expertise to fulfill nursing roles after initial mentorship.
Findings suggest that current nursing education prepares graduates effectively for practical healthcare settings.
This study provides valuable insights for refining nursing curricula and onboarding processes.
