Piezosurgery offers a less painful and swollen recovery for sinus lifting compared to conventional methods. Patient experience and daily activities remain unaffected by the surgical technique used.
Area of Science:
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Dental Implantology
Background:
- Direct sinus lifting is a common procedure in implant dentistry.
- Conventional rotative instruments are traditionally used for osteotomy and membrane elevation.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare Piezosurgery with conventional rotative instruments in direct sinus lifting.
- Evaluate intraoperative and postoperative outcomes of both techniques.
Main Methods:
- Twenty-three patients undergoing direct sinus lifting were divided into two groups.
- Procedures utilized either Piezosurgery or conventional rotative instruments.
- Outcomes assessed included operative duration, membrane perforation, pain, swelling, and patient-reported experiences.
Main Results:
- No significant differences were found in membrane perforation, operative duration, or site visibility between groups.
- Piezosurgery group reported significantly less postoperative pain and swelling compared to the conventional group.
- Patient expectations and post-operative experiences were similar across both techniques.
Conclusions:
- Piezosurgery is associated with reduced postoperative pain and swelling in direct sinus lifting.
- Surgical technique does not significantly impact patients' daily activities or overall experience.
