    Background:

    • Typhoid fever diagnosis relies on accurate laboratory methods.
    • The Widal test is a common serological test for typhoid fever.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Widal test for typhoid fever.
    • To assess the utility of H and O agglutinin titers in diagnosing typhoid fever.

    Main Methods:

    • The Widal test was conducted on blood specimens from typhoid fever patients, nontyphoid salmonellosis patients, and nontyphoid febrile patients.
    • Agglutinin titers (H and O) were analyzed to determine diagnostic levels.

    • 77.8% of typhoid fever patients showed Salmonella typhi H and/or O titers ≥ 1:160.

    Conclusions:

    • The Widal test, with its favorable diagnostic parameters, retains clinical value for typhoid fever diagnosis.
    • Early detection of H and/or O agglutinin titers can assist in the timely diagnosis of typhoid fever.
