Base composition of duck 10S RNA and its poly(A) segment

Abstract:
The base composition of the poly(A) segment of duck 10S RNA was determined to be 92% AMP and 8% GMP. The GMP was probably the result of contamination of poly(A) with other segments of the RNA. A comparison of the theoretical and determined base compositions of the whole 10S RNA molecule suggested that it contains, besides a coding sequence, two noncoding sequences only one of which is poly(A).

Pre-mRNA Processing: Modification of pre-mRNA Ends
Once about 20-40 ribonucleotides have been joined together by RNA polymerase, a group of enzymes adds a cap to the 5' end of the growing transcript. In this process, a 5' phosphate is replaced by modified guanosine that has a methyl group attached (7-methyl guanosine). This 5' cap helps...

Ribosome biogenesis begins with the synthesis of 5S and 45S pre-rRNAs by distinct RNA polymerases. The primary transcripts are extensively processed and modified before they are bound and folded by ribosomal proteins and assembly factors,...
