Ascending aortic injuries following blunt trauma

Traumatic ascending aortic injuries are rare but serious. Motor vehicle accidents are a common cause. Open repair, emergent or delayed, is the preferred treatment for these thoracic aortic injuries.

- Open repair, emergent or delayed, is the standard treatment.
- Operative mortality for emergent open repair is 12.5%.
