Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the utility of mean platelet volume (MPV) as an indicator of disease severity in patients with ocular Behçet's Disease (BD).
- To evaluate if MPV levels correlate with clinical improvement following immunosuppressive treatment in early-stage ocular BD.
Main Methods:
- A cohort of 30 newly diagnosed ocular BD patients with active uveitis was studied.
- MPV levels were measured serially in BD patients during active uveitis and at 1 and 3 months post-treatment.
- A control group of 34 healthy individuals was included for comparative MPV measurements.
Main Results:
- Initial MPV levels in active ocular BD patients (7.88 ± 1.14 fL) were significantly lower than in healthy controls (8.39 ± 0.66 fL).
- MPV levels in BD patients showed no significant fluctuations during the 3-month post-treatment follow-up period (7.71 ± 1.12 fL and 7.65 ± 1.04 fL).
- No significant changes in MPV were observed within the BD group during the study period.
Conclusions:
- Mean platelet volume (MPV) is not a reliable predictive laboratory test for assessing clinical improvement in early-stage ocular Behçet's Disease.
- MPV levels do not appear to correlate with disease severity or response to standard immunosuppressive therapy in this patient cohort.
