Context:

Genital prolapse is a common condition affecting women, necessitating effective surgical interventions.
Vaginal vault suspension and fixation are critical components of surgical repair.

Purpose:

To review the current gold standard surgical technique for genital prolapse, sacrocolpopexy.
To compare laparoscopic and robotic approaches to sacrocolpopexy, including their outcomes and ideal mesh characteristics.

Summary:

Sacrocolpopexy, particularly the laparoscopic approach, is the preferred method for treating genital prolapse, achieving over 90% objective and subjective correction rates.
The procedure involves fixing meshes to the vaginal walls and anterior sacral ligament. Dual abdominal and perineal approaches may be used.
Robotic sacrocolpopexy offers similar outcomes to laparoscopy but with higher costs and longer operative times; it is expected to become more prevalent as costs decrease and training increases.

Impact:

Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy demonstrates superior outcomes compared to open procedures, with reduced bleeding and shorter hospital stays.
