Conclusions:

  • Television viewing showed the most consistent association with BMI gains, likely due to food advertising.
  • Electronic games and DVDs/videos also correlated with increased BMI in girls, potentially via product placement and "advergames."
  • Adolescents, particularly those who are overweight, may benefit from reduced exposure to various media types.
