[Local reactions to disease-modifying drugs: pathogenesis and relationship to clinical effectiveness]
Abstract:
One of the most common adverse events of disease-modifying drugs in multiple sclerosis are local adverse reactions including redness and swelling at the injection site, compaction, panniculitis, lipoatrophy and others. This article provides an overview of the existing publications on the prevalence, pathogenesis and pathomorphology as well as data on the prevalence and characteristics of local reactions during DMD therapy of 193 patients. Authors defined a safety profile for local adverse reactions to interferon-Β and glatiramer acetate and traced the relationship of lipoatrophy and pannikulita with effectiveness of therapy.
