[Radiation treatment of esophageal cancer]

Carcinoma of the esophagus is difficult to be cured by irradiation because accurate extension of the tumor and presence of metastatic lymph node(s) are difficult to be visualized by diagnostic methods. Required radiation dose, effects of irradiation, 5 year survival rate and method of treatment planning are discussed here.
