Archival Research

15.6K
Some researchers gain access to large amounts of data without interacting with a single research participant. Instead, they use existing records to answer various research questions. This type of research approach is known as archival research. Archival research relies on looking at past records or data sets to look for interesting patterns or relationships. For example, a researcher might access the academic records of all individuals who enrolled in college within the past ten years and...

Area of Science:

  • Community-based service research
  • Psychosocial intervention implementation
  • Dementia care research

Background:

  • Collaborative research in community settings presents unique benefits and limitations.
  • Early-stage dementia management requires effective support for both individuals with dementia and their family caregivers.
  • Existing practitioner workforces can be trained to deliver specialized interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of a psychosocial intervention for early-stage dementia dyads.
  • To assess the feasibility of recruiting and training practitioners to deliver this intervention.
  • To explore the benefits and limitations of collaborative research in service settings.

Main Methods:

  • Implementation of a psychosocial intervention for dementia dyads.
  • Recruitment and training of an existing practitioner workforce.
  • Post-intervention semi-structured interviews with seven intervention staff.

Main Results:

  • Staff recruitment and retention were significant challenges.
  • Practitioner communication skills and competence were crucial for dyad acceptance of the intervention.
  • Workplace culture and demands impacted staff participation and intervention delivery.

Conclusions:

  • Factors like participatory development, selective recruitment, focused training, and support aid practice-based research implementation.
  • Effective communication and addressing workplace barriers are vital for successful psychosocial intervention delivery in dementia care.
  • Collaborative research in community services requires careful consideration of workforce dynamics and support structures.
