Novel palladium-catalyzed cascade carboxylative annulation to construct functionalized γ-lactones in ionic liquids

A new four-step method uses palladium to create functionalized γ-lactones efficiently. This process is a rare example of carbonylation involving a C(sp(3))-palladium bond.
