Disorders of the Male Reproductive System

5.2K
Men's health issues are increasingly recognized as significant, with several conditions posing common threats. Among these, testicular cancer is especially prevalent in younger men, particularly those aged 20 to 35 years. The disease often manifests as a painless mass in the testicles, sometimes accompanied by a sensation of heaviness or a dull ache.
Prostate disorders are another major concern. These conditions can impair urinary flow due to the prostate's location around the urethra....

Cirrhosis I: Introduction

28
Cirrhosis is a chronic, irreversible liver disease characterized by the widespread replacement of healthy liver tissue with fibrotic scar tissue and the formation of regenerative nodules.Etiology of cirrhosisCirrhosis results from sustained liver injury that triggers progressive fibrosis and structural remodeling. The underlying causes are diverse, encompassing common and less frequent clinical conditions. Regardless of the origin, all causes lead to chronic inflammation, hepatocyte loss, and...

Penis

50.8K
The penis serves a dual role in sexual reproduction and urination. It consists of three main regions: the glans penis, the body, and the root, each with distinct functions and unique anatomical features.
Anatomy of the Penis
The glans penis, or the head, is the terminal part of the penis and houses the external urethral orifice, the exit point for urine and semen. Covered by the prepuce, or foreskin, the glans is noted for its sensitivity and plays a key role in sexual pleasure. The body of the...

Rous Sarcoma Virus (RSV) and Cancer01:03

Rous Sarcoma Virus (RSV) and Cancer

5.2K
Rous Sarcoma virus or RSV was discovered by F. Peyton Rous in the year 1911 as a filterable transmissible agent that could cause tumors in chickens. He won a Nobel Prize for this discovery in 1966. His experiments clearly demonstrated that some cancers could be caused by infectious agents and led to the discovery of many more cancer-causing viruses in animals as well as humans.
RSV is a retrovirus that contains two copies of a plus-strand  RNA genome. Its genome consists of four main open...

Summary

A rare angiosarcoma of the penis was diagnosed in a young male patient presenting with a glans lesion. Surgical resection was performed, with no signs of metastasis.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Penile angiosarcoma is a rare vascular malignancy.
  • Early detection and diagnosis are crucial for effective management.

Observation:

  • A 29-year-old male presented with a proliferative lesion on the glans penis.
  • Initial examination revealed no inguinal lymphadenopathy.

Findings:

  • Biopsy confirmed a highly vascular malignant lesion.
  • Metastasis work-up was negative.
  • Final histopathology identified the lesion as angiosarcoma of the penis.

Implications:

  • Partial penile amputation is a viable surgical option for localized penile angiosarcoma.
