Background:

Cataract formation is a known complication following intraocular surgery, particularly vitrectomy for posterior segment eye disorders.
The underlying condition necessitating vitrectomy may impact the success of subsequent cataract surgery.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the effectiveness and safety of cataract surgery in patients who developed cataracts after vitrectomy.
To assess outcomes related to visual acuity and quality of life.

Main Methods:

A comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases (CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS, PubMed, mRCT, ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO ICTRP).
Searches included randomized and quasi-randomized controlled trials comparing cataract surgery with no surgery in adult patients post-vitrectomy.
Data screening was performed independently by two authors.

Main Results:

No randomized or quasi-randomized controlled trials were identified that met the inclusion criteria.
There is a lack of high-quality evidence regarding cataract surgery outcomes in this patient population.
