Summary

A rare congenital tail in an infant was linked to spinal dysraphism and tethered cord. Surgical excision of the tail and lesion successfully resolved the condition.

  • Spina bifida occulta often manifests with subtle skin indicators like hair patches or sinuses.
  • Congenital tails are exceptionally rare presentations, sometimes associated with spinal abnormalities.

  • A four-month-old male infant presented with a congenital tail.
  • This anomaly was found to be associated with spinal dysraphism.

Findings:

  • The congenital tail was directly linked to the tethering of the spinal cord.
  • Surgical excision of both the tail and the tethering lesion was performed successfully.

  • This case highlights the importance of investigating congenital tails for underlying spinal cord issues.
