    Background:

    • The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Outcome Project aims to assess resident competence in 6 key dimensions.
    • General physician attributes were defined, but specific specialty activities (entrustable professional activities - EPAs) were not.
    • EPAs describe the actual activities a competent physician performs in practice.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop a list of EPAs for ambulatory practice in family medicine.
    • To guide curriculum development and resident assessment in family medicine.

    Main Methods:

    • An initial list of EPAs was developed over 3 years.
    • A Delphi Process involving 22 family medicine experts refined the list.
    • Experts participated in two rounds of anonymous, internet-based surveys.

    Main Results:

    • The Delphi Process reduced 91 competency areas to 76.
    • Three additional competency areas were added in the first round.
    • A consensus list of EPAs for family medicine ambulatory practice was generated.

    Conclusions:

    • The developed list of EPAs serves as a foundation for family medicine residency programs.
    • It supports the transition to competency-based resident education and assessment.
    • This framework enhances the evaluation of physician competence in family medicine.
