Background:

  • Colonoscopy revealed a cecal lesion suspicious for malignancy.

Observation:

  • The lesion was a polypoidal growth in the cecum.
  • Histological analysis was performed on the resected lesion.

Findings:

  • The polypoidal growth was a consequence of chronic Enterobius vermicularis infection.
  • No dysplastic or malignant cells were identified.
  • Rectal examination revealed hemorrhoids as the source of bleeding.

Implications:

  • Enterobius vermicularis infection can mimic colonic malignancy on colonoscopy.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering parasitic infections in the differential diagnosis of colorectal lesions.
  • Prompt diagnosis and antihelminthic treatment can prevent unnecessary oncological surgery.
