[Successful therapy of secondary melanoma of the orbit with DTIC]

The authors report on cytostatic treatment of a secondary malignant melanoma of the left orbit in a 68-year-old patient. It was an inoperable tumor, extending parabulbarly and retrobulbarly, with erosion of the bone of the orbital roof and deep infiltration into the frontal sinus. The regression of the tumor following intravenous administration of Dacarbacine (6 series of 5 X 200 mg DTIC) is shown on computerized tomograms. A year after completion of chemotherapy there had been no recurrence; the patient then died suddenly from the sequelae of an apoplexy.
