Introspection01:29

Introspection

443
Introspection, long upheld as a reliable route to self-knowledge, involves examining one's thoughts, emotions, and mental processes. It underpins many psychological practices, from mindfulness meditation to psychotherapy and self-help strategies. However, empirical evidence challenges the accuracy of introspection as a means of understanding oneself.Limitations of Introspective InsightSeminal work by Nisbett and Wilson demonstrated that individuals are frequently unaware of the true causes...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation

2.4K
Evaluation of the teaching process enables the nurse to determine if the patient's learning needs were met and if training was effective. If the expected outcomes are not met, the care plan is revised, and additional education or reinforcement is provided. Nurses can ask questions after the session or obtain feedback to assess the patient's understanding of the topic.
Nurses can use several methods to evaluate patient outcomes. For example, oral questions can assess cognitive learning,...

Critical Thinking01:19

Critical Thinking

1.3K
Critical thinking involves reflective and productive thinking and the evaluation of evidence. Critical thinkers seek to understand the deeper meaning of ideas, question assumptions, and make independent decisions about what to believe or do. Scientists, for instance, are often critical thinkers. Critical thinking also requires humility about what we know and don't know and the motivation to look beyond the obvious. It is essential for effective problem-solving.
Colleges and universities are...

Cognitive Learning01:21

Cognitive Learning

1.6K
Cognitive learning is based on purposive behavior, incidental learning, and insight learning.
E. C. Tolman's theory of purposive behavior emphasizes that much behavior is goal-directed. He argued that to understand behavior, we must look at the entire sequence of actions leading to a goal. For instance, high school students study hard, not just due to past reinforcement but also to achieve the goal of getting into a good college.
Tolman introduced the idea that behavior is influenced by...

The Scientific Method02:40

The Scientific Method

57.2K
Research is what makes the difference between facts and opinions. Facts are observable realities, and opinions are personal judgments, conclusions, or attitudes that may or may not be accurate. In the scientific community, facts can be established only using evidence collected through empirical research.

Summary

Knowledge translation platforms (KTPs) enhance evidence-informed health policymaking (EIHP) in low- and middle-income countries. Their activities strengthen relationships and awareness, but sustainability requires institutionalization or autonomy.

Area of Science:

  • Health Policy and Systems Research
  • Knowledge Translation
  • Evidence-Informed Health Policymaking (EIHP)

Background:

  • Knowledge Translation Platforms (KTPs) are partnerships designed to improve evidence-informed health policymaking (EIHP) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
  • Understanding KTP activities, perceptions, facilitators, challenges, and sustainability is crucial for their effectiveness.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore the activities undertaken by KTPs in LMICs.
  • To understand how KTP leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders perceive KTP activities and outputs.
  • To identify facilitators, challenges, and lessons learned for KTP work and sustainability.

Main Methods:

  • Qualitative data were triangulated from 17 semi-structured interviews with 47 key informants across 10 KTPs.
  • Document reviews and observations from the International Forum on EIHP in LMICs were also utilized.
  • Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the collected data.

Main Results:

  • Deliberative dialogues informed by evidence briefs were highly valued for enhancing EIHP.
  • KTPs increased awareness of EIHP importance and strengthened partnerships among stakeholders.
  • Policymaker support and funding facilitated activities, while lack of skilled human resources and ensuring long-term sustainability posed challenges.

Conclusions:

  • KTPs represent a promising approach to supporting EIHP in LMICs.
  • Learning from KTP experiences can improve their functioning and advocate for sustained support.
  • Lessons learned can inform the promotion of similar EIHP initiatives globally.
