Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Signal Processing
  • Biomedical Engineering

Background:

  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) alpha rhythms are crucial for understanding brain states.
  • Characterizing alpha rhythms traditionally involves identifying specific frequency bands.
  • The channel reactivity-based method (CRB) offers a novel approach to EEG alpha rhythm analysis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and present a user-friendly, graphical interactive toolbox for the CRB method.
  • To integrate the CRB toolbox seamlessly with the EEGLAB environment.
  • To demonstrate the utility and advantages of the CRB toolbox for EEG research.

Main Methods:

  • Implementation of the channel reactivity-based method (CRB) as a plugin for EEGLAB.
  • Utilizing individual alpha frequencies (IAFs) and channel alpha frequencies (CAFs) for characterization.
  • Identifying frequencies where alpha rhythm power decreases to define IAFs and CAFs.

Main Results:

  • A functional and interactive toolbox for CRB analysis is now available.
  • The toolbox enhances the ease of use for CRB in common EEG investigations.
  • Demonstration of the software's capabilities and benefits for researchers.

Conclusions:

  • The developed CRB toolbox simplifies the analysis of EEG alpha rhythms.
  • This tool facilitates the application of CRB in various EEG research contexts.
  • The toolbox, documentation, and dataset are publicly accessible for broader research use.
