Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Pulmonary Function Tests are crucial diagnostic tools for assessing respiratory function, particularly in patients with chronic respiratory disorders. They comprehensively evaluate lung volumes, ventilatory function, breathing mechanics, diffusion, and gas exchange. These tests help diagnose pulmonary diseases and play a significant role in monitoring disease progression, evaluating disability, and assessing response to therapy.

Background:

A prior review identified recommendations for improving functional capacity evaluation (FCE) practice.
This study evaluated the implementation of these recommendations within a regionalized rehabilitation service.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the acceptance of FCE recommendations by occupational therapists.
To determine the current consistency of FCE approach in practice.

Main Methods:

Qualitative descriptive survey and focus group methodology.
Participants: 18/48 (38%) occupational therapists responded to the survey; 8 participated in the focus group.
Setting: A major rehabilitation provider in Queensland, Australia.

Main Results:

Occupational therapists showed some acceptance of FCE recommendations regarding procedure, reporting, equipment, and evaluation models.
Evidence suggests a degree of consistency in current FCE practice.
Further investigation into the reliability and validity of FCE is warranted.

Conclusions:

A low response rate limited the conclusiveness of the findings.
The study provided preliminary evidence of consistency in FCE practice.
Results are discussed in the context of contemporary FCE challenges.
