Abstract:
A description of the laboratory method for testing the resistance of potato breeding material to lea roll virus is given. The main steps of this method are as follows: Three days after emergence potato plants should be infected with potato leaf roll carrying peach aphids. The aphids are separated from feeding plants by treating plants and aphids in a refrigerator at -5 °C to -7 °C for two hours. After this, the aphids are distributed into infection tubes by a special light box.The results obtained from testing the resistance of varieties and breeding material (clonal material and seedling populations) to potato leaf roll virus in the laboratory and in the field were compared. Because of the positive correlation between the results in the field and laboratory, the laboratory method can be recommended for use in practical breeding for leaf roll resistance.
