Background:

Transanal tumor resection is a standard procedure for removing rectal lesions.
Minimizing operative time and blood loss are key goals in rectal surgery.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transanal tumor resection using a harmonic scalpel.
To assess the outcomes of this technique in a cohort of patients.

Main Methods:

A retrospective review of 32 patients who underwent transanal tumor resection with a harmonic scalpel between 2005 and 2011.
Data collected included patient demographics, tumor characteristics, operative time, blood loss, and histopathological findings.

Main Results:

En bloc resection was achieved in all 32 patients.
The average operative time was 29 minutes, with minimal blood loss (average 16.2 mL).
No intraoperative bleeding required hemostatic procedures; lesions included adenomas, various stages of cancer, and other tumor types.

Conclusions:

Transanal tumor resection with a harmonic scalpel is a safe, simple, and effective technique.
The harmonic scalpel facilitates rapid, bloodless en bloc resection of rectal tumors.
