Summary

For incidental prostate cancer found during transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P), deferred treatment is often sufficient. This approach is supported by findings showing these cancers are well-differentiated and rarely progress to symptomatic disease.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical course of incidental prostate carcinoma diagnosed via transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P).
  • To compare the outcomes of incidental versus manifest prostate carcinoma.

  • Retrospective study of 86 consecutive patients diagnosed with prostate carcinoma at TUR-P between 1979-1983.
  • Analysis of histological differentiation and clinical progression for incidental and manifest cases.
