Random synchronous malignancy in male breast: a case report.

Background:

• Synchronous malignancies, particularly in the head and neck and upper aerodigestive tract, are well-documented.
• Male breast cancer is a rare diagnosis, and synchronous presentations are even less common.

Observation:

• A patient with known base of tongue squamous cell carcinoma underwent whole body 18-fluorine deoxyglucose positron emission tomography and computed tomography ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) for staging.
• An incidental finding of a breast lesion was detected during the whole body scan.
• Histopathological analysis confirmed the breast lesion to be invasive ductal carcinoma.

Findings:

• The (18)F-FDG PET/CT successfully identified a synchronous, incidentally detected invasive ductal carcinoma of the male breast.
• This case represents a rare occurrence of dual primary malignancies involving the base of the tongue and male breast.

Implications:

• Whole body (18)F-FDG PET/CT imaging plays a crucial role in detecting unexpected synchronous primary malignancies.
• This case underscores the importance of thorough evaluation of incidental findings, even in rare presentations like male breast cancer.
