Depth perception is the ability to perceive objects three-dimensionally. It relies on two types of cues: binocular and monocular. Contextual information in visual working memory (VWM) is viewpoint-dependent. Spatial configurations of memorized objects impact object location memory, but this effect diminishes with changes in viewpoint.

  • Viewpoint changes (0°, 30°, 60°) and spatial configuration visibility (full, partial, none) were manipulated between memory and probe phases.

  • Location change detection was better with full spatial configurations at 0° viewpoint change, confirming non-independent object representations.
  • The benefit of spatial configurations on location memory significantly decreased as viewpoint changes increased.

  • Findings suggest potential distinct storage systems within VWM, possibly related to the slots-versus-resources debate.
