Summary

Cutaneous schistosomiasis is a rare manifestation of Schistosomiasis mansoni, often overlooked in endemic regions. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent potential complications from this neglected tropical disease.

Background:

Schistosomiasis mansoni is a prevalent parasitic disease, typically presenting with gastrointestinal or asymptomatic symptoms.
Cutaneous manifestations of Schistosomiasis mansoni are infrequently diagnosed, even in areas where the disease is endemic.

Observation:

A case study involving a young girl with Schistosomiasis mansoni presenting with skin lesions on her abdomen, back, and scapular region.
Histopathological examination of the skin lesions confirmed the presence of Schistosoma eggs.

Findings:

The patient was diagnosed with cutaneous schistosomiasis without evidence of systemic involvement.
Schistosoma eggs were identified within the dermal lesions.

Implications:

Cutaneous schistosomiasis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of skin lesions, particularly in endemic zones.
Timely diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous schistosomiasis are essential to avert potential long-term health consequences.
