Summary

Curcumin, derived from turmeric, effectively treats experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) in rats by reducing inflammation and immune cell activity. This suggests curcumin may be a promising treatment for autoimmune neuropathies like Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the therapeutic effects of curcumin on EAN in rats.
  • To elucidate the underlying mechanisms of curcumin's action in EAN.

Main Methods:

  • Rats were induced with EAN and treated with curcumin (100 mg/kg/day).
  • Neurological signs, body weight, sciatic nerve inflammation, and immune cell profiles (CD4+ T cells, Th1 cells) were assessed.
