Summary

Proverb tests assess mental status, but understanding figurative language is complex. Recent research suggests the right hemisphere (RH) plays a key role in interpreting nonliteral meanings, impacting neurological and psychiatric assessments.

Proverb tests are common in mental status examinations, yet normal comprehension of proverbial expressions remains poorly understood.
